Shali Sanders - Artist Statement

Round and round my brushes and paints have gone… crayons to pencils, watercolors, acrylics, gouache, life-drawing, portraits, poetics, animals… and now... statues.

Childhood horse drawings and portraits of my adolescent friends led to an Art Scholarship in NYC out of high school, then onto being an Art Major, then eventually into Medical School, all the while tending to art in some form. It has been a life-long journey through many art out-pourings.

At this juncture, I am attracted to the symbolism of a simple Statue and the effect that 3-dimensional forms have upon us. Statues and Sculptures gather our attention and can transport us.

The available Giclee (jee-clay) prints of my original watercolor paintings come from a series called “The Glance of Mercy”. The portraits of Animals and Birds, most of which we can never get close enough to to see their eyes, can give us a sense of contact and relationship. That is what artistic expression is all about. The artist can bring you in close and offer another perspective.

The cards offered on this site are an additional way to bring this creativity into your home or to share the art with others..
Consider preserving the art of hand-written cards and letters!

May you surround yourself with beauty and wonder in all ways!

Gracefully,
Shali
